A Twitter user posted mathematical evidence that the weapons in the Destiny dungeon Vesper’s Host were getting certain traits far more than others, despite the odds for each trait supposedly being equal.

Newo began testing his theory that trait drop rates were lower than Bungie claimed after his friend opened nearly one thousand engram crystals without ever getting the trait combination he was looking for, even though the odds should have been one in 36.

This led Newo to create a website that would monitor participants’ Destiny 2 inventories to record the drop rates of weapon traits. What he found was that some weapon trait combinations were far more common than others.

Specifically, for the VS Chill Inhibitor, the distribution was all over the place, with some perk combinations never occurring more than once in over four hundred instances.

A chi-squared test, which is a mathematical formula used to determine whether one data set is significantly different from another data set, found that the distribution of weapon perks was almost certainly not uniform.

Bungie has yet to respond to these findings. The full report can be found here.
