Nintendo released a digital alarm clock Wednesday on their online store and in their New York City store, retailing at $100.
The alarm clock, called Alarmo, lets the user select from 35 scenes from five different Nintendo franchises, including Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Splatoon, Pikmin and Animal Crossing. Nintendo claims that the sensor atop the clock can detect whether the user is in bed, and will continuously attempt to wake the user up if they are still in bed.
Alarmo is only available online to Nintendo Switch Online members, requiring customers to be signed in with an active account in order to make a purchase. It is unclear if Nintendo plans to expand the market for Alarmo in the coming months.
The leaders of the Alarmo project were Yosuke Tamori, whose resume includes work on Splatoon for the Wii U, and Tetsuya Akama, who helped create the Joy-Con grip for the Nintendo Switch. According to them, Alarmo has been in development since the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, adding some logistical challenges to development.
