In response to new Korean legislation, EA released a statement denying any tampering with minimum global drop rates on cosmetics in their battle royale game Apex Legends.
EA went into further detail about the specifics behind Apex Legends‘ drop rates, specifically guarantees regarding minimum item drops per certain amount of loot box purchases. Specifically, the company denies tampering with their item probabilities, and claims that the odds they disclose are the lowest possible probabilities.
South Korean legislators passed a bill last year compelling video game companies to disclose the exact item probabilities for loot boxes in video games, with fines of just over $14 thousand for companies who do not comply. According to South Korean gaming news outlet GameMeca, South Korea’s review board assigned to overseeing compliance found 266 games in violation of this law.
It is unclear whether Apex Legends was one of the 266 games in violation of South Korean law. Game Wrecks was unable to confirm any of EA’s claims surrounding the game.
