Phil Spencer sent an email Thursday morning to Microsoft employees informing them that the company would be eliminating 650 roles in the company.
According to Spencer’s email, the layoffs will affect “mostly corporate and supporting positions,” reportedly meaning vestiges of Activision Blizzard’s corporate structure.
The latest round of cuts brings the total number of laid off Microsoft employees for the year 2024 to over 2,500. The company laid off 1,900 employees in June, and most of the terminated employees in that round of layoffs were also former Activision Blizzard staff.
Despite the mass redundancy, Spencer stated in his email that the move would not affect any planned games, nor would it mean the end of any studios.
“No games, devices or experiences are being cancelled and no studios are being closed as part of these adjustments today,” Spencer wrote.
Reports from Paul Tassi indicate that the downsizing will effect 3% of Microsoft’s entire workforce
